Pediatric Feeding Therapy in Las Vegas and Pahrump
When mealtime feels like a battle, you don't have to figure it out alone.
Feeding challenges are stressful for the whole family. Maybe your child only eats a handful of foods, gags or melts down at the sight of something new, or has trouble chewing and swallowing. At Wells Communication and Feeding Therapy, we help children build the skills and confidence to eat a wider variety of foods, and help families bring calm back to the table.
Signs your child may benefit from feeding therapy
Eats fewer than 20 foods, or keeps dropping foods they used to eat
Gags, coughs, or vomits during or after meals
Refuses entire food groups or textures
Has trouble chewing, or pockets food in their cheeks
Very slow eating, or meals regularly take longer than 30 minutes
Strong distress, crying, or meltdowns around new foods
Difficulty moving from purees to table foods, or from a bottle to a cup
Concerns about weight or growth from your child's doctor
Picky eater or feeding disorder?
Many children go through picky phases and still eat a reasonable variety of foods. A child with a feeding disorder usually eats a very limited number of foods, has strong reactions to new foods, or has trouble with the physical skills of eating. If mealtimes are a daily struggle, or your child's food list keeps getting shorter, a feeding evaluation can help you understand what's going on.
Our feeding evaluation
We start by talking with you about your child's medical and feeding history, the foods they eat now, and what mealtimes look like at home. We observe your child eating familiar and new foods, and look at their oral motor skills, chewing, swallowing, and sensory responses to food. Afterward, we explain what we found, answer your questions, and give you a written report and a recommended plan.
Please bring a few foods your child usually eats and one or two they are learning to try.
What feeding therapy looks like
Feeding therapy is gentle, child-led, and never forced. We build trust with food step by step, from looking at and touching new foods to tasting and eating them, while strengthening the oral motor skills your child needs. [Approaches you use, such as SOS Approach to Feeding or responsive feeding]
Parent coaching is part of every session. You'll learn strategies for setting up meals at home, offering new foods without pressure, and celebrating small wins, so progress continues between sessions.
